We’ll start by covering the music fundamentals you’ll need to identify the key, chords, and rhythm of your favourite songs. These essential tools will help you avoid random trial-and-error so you can focus on making real music!
Then comes the best part: we’ll listen to music together and practice finding the notes and chords on the piano. Song selections were suggested by webinar attendees and include music by The Beatles, Fats Domino, and Mötley Crüe. You’ll follow along with the group’s questions and listening exercises, and maybe even discover a new favourite song or two!
I hope you’ll join us for this exciting introduction to playing by ear. Let’s make music together!

This workshop is designed for piano beginners. To participate fully, you’ll need:
A basic understanding of the piano, including note names.
Some familiarity with reading notes in the treble clef (helpful, but not required)
Knowledge of simple rhythm patterns, like my favourite rhythm pattern for piano beginners, to make your chords sound musical right away!
If you’re new to piano or feel uncertain about these skills, don’t worry! You’ll still learn a lot by listening, observing, and discovering where to start your own journey of playing by ear.
